Welcome to ‘The Great Bute-ish Bake Off’! During this period of isolation at home, we want you to GET CREATIVE and GET INVOLVED! Join Layla and Molly as they face their baking fears and compete in our weekly baking challenges in a bid to be crowned Star Baker. Send in pictures of your baking creations every week to be in with the chance of being crowned GBBO Champion…

Important Information:

  • New videos will be posted every Tuesday at 4pm
  • Star Baker for each week will be announced every Monday at 6pm
  • Photo entries for weekly challenges must be submitted by 6pm each Sunday. We would prefer to receive these via WhatsApp (01700 505558), however entries can also be sent through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Email.

What Are You Givin’ For Week 7!!!! This week is ‘Healthy(ish) Week’! This week we want to see you create amazing Bakes injected with at-least one of your FIVE A DAY! Cake, Biscuits, or maybe something Savory – it really is up to you, but a Healthy Ingredient must feature somewhere in your Bake! Try Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to make something from scratch? Why not decorate something you already have in your cupboard!

You have until Sunday May 31st at 6pm to send in a picture of your creation to be in the running to be crowned our Star Baker!

Recipes

Layla's 'Black Forest Cake'

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising] – 8oz
  2. Sugar [Caster] – 8oz
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 8oz
  4. Eggs – 4
  5. Mixed Berries [Blended] – 5oz
  6. Cocoa Powder – ½ Cup

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Add Butter and Sugar into Mixing Bowl and beat with Electric Mixer or Mixing Spoon until creamy
  3. Then mix in Flour and Egg until a dough is formed
  4. Use Blender to puree fruit and use Spoon to fold into the cake mixture
  5. Add Cocoa Powder and mix until combined
  6. Split mixture evenly between two lined Cake Pans
  7. Bake in the Oven for approx. 30 mins or until cooked through the centre
  8. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  9. Leave your bake to cool before decorating

Molly's 'Rhubarb Apple Tart'

YOU WILL NEED:

BASE INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Plain] – 225g
  2. Butter – 100g
  3. Salt – a pinch
  4. Water – 2½ tbsp

METHOD:

  1. Rub the flour and butter together until it resembles breadcrumbs
  2. Stir in the salt
  3. Add the water (a little bit at a time as you do not need a lot) and bring it together into a dough
  4. Roll it out and put it into the dish you are using. Try to ensure there are no cracks in it
  5. Blind baking is where you bake the pastry without the filling in it (this helps to make sure the pastry doesn’t go soggy and is cooked all the way through)
  6. Line the pastry with grease proof paper/tin foil and add baking beans/rice/lentils/other alternatives
  7. Bake at 200 C for 20 minutes
  8. Remove the paper and baking beans/whatever alternative you are using
  9. Bake for another 10 minutes

FILLING INGREDIENTS:

  1. Apples – 3
  2. Rhubarb [Stalks] – 5
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 1 tbsp
  4. Water – 2 tbsp
  5. Sugar – to taste
  6. Cinnamon – 1 tsp
  7. Orange Juice – a dash

METHOD:

  1. Peel and chop the apples
  2. Chop the Rhubarb into small chunks
  3. In a saucepan, add all the filling ingredients and bring to a simmer
  4. Cook for 8-10minutes or until the Rhubarb and Apple is soft
  5. Let cool for 15 minutes

TOPPING INGREDIENTS:

  1. Plain Flour – 140g
  2. Butter – 140g
  3. Cinnamon – 1 tsp
  4. Brown Sugar – 140g

METHOD:

  1. Rub the topping ingredients together until crumbly
  2. Add the filling to the pastry once it has cooked and the crumble over the top
  3. Scatter with almonds
  4. Bake for 20 minutes at 180 C
  5. Leave to cool until it is just warm and serve with custard!

Why not get creative and decorate biscuits you already have in your cupboard!

Layla’s ‘3 Step Shortbread

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [All Purpose or Self Raising] – 1½ Cups
  2. Sugar [Caster] – ½ Cup
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 1 Cup

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Sieve Sugar and Flour into Mixing Bowl, if you don’t have a Sieve use a Whisk to break up the lumps
  3. Add Butter to the mixture and use Clean Hands to bring the mixture together until it forms a smooth dough
  4. Use extra Flour to dust over a flat work-surface in your kitchen so the dough doesn’t stick.
  5. Use your Rolling Pin or Rolling Alternative to roll the dough out on the work-surface, don’t roll it too thin
  6. Use Shape Cutters or a Kitchen Knife to turn the dough into a shape of your choice
  7. Place your creation on a Baking Tray and bake in the Oven until golden
  8. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  9. Leave your bake to cool before decorating

Molly’s ‘Iced Biscuits

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [All Purpose or Plain] – 400g
  2. Sugar [Caster] – 200g
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 200g
  4. Eggs – 1
  5. Vanilla Extract – a drizzle

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Add Butter into Mixing Bowl and beat with Electric Mixer or Mixing Spoon until creamy
  3. Then mix in Sugar, Egg, Vanilla Extract and Flour until a dough is formed
  4. Use extra Flour to dust over a flat work-surface in your kitchen so the dough doesn’t stick and lay the dough out on the surface using Clean Hands.
  5. Use your Rolling Pin or Rolling Alternative to roll the dough out on the work-surface, don’t roll it too thin
  6. Use Shape Cutters or a Kitchen Knife to turn the dough into a shape of your choice
  7. Place your creation on a Baking Tray and bake in the Oven for 7-10 mins
  8. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  9. Leave your bake to cool before decorating

Week 2 - 'Pizza Week'

We are back for Week 2! This week is Pizza Week and the theme is THINK OUTSIDE THE PIZZA BOX. We want you to concoct pizza creations as we have never seen them before! Bake with Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to bake? Why not use something you already have in your cupboard like bread, pita or a tortilla!

Recipes

Super Simple Pizza Dough

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [All Purpose or Self Raising] – 350g
  2. Baking Powder – 3 tsp
  3. Salt – 1 tbsp
  4. Oil – 1 tbsp
  5. Water – 200ml

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Sieve Flour, Salt and Baking Powder into Mixing Bowl, if you don’t have a Sieve use a Whisk to break up the lumps
  3. Add Oil and half your Water to the mixture and use Clean Hands to bring the mixture together until it forms a ball of dough
  4. If your dough is too stiff then gradually add your leftover water until the dough is soft but not sticky
  5. Use extra Flour to dust over a flat work-surface in your kitchen so the dough doesn’t stick and kneed the dough with Clean Hands for 3-4mins
  6. Use your Rolling Pin or Rolling Alternative to roll the dough out on the work-surface, don’t roll it too thin
  7. Decorate with ingredients of your choice
  8. Place your creation on a Baking Tray and bake in the Oven for 15-20mins until golden
  9. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel

Layla's 'Hot Tomato Pizza Sauce'

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Tomato Puree [From Concentrate] – 2 tbsp
  2. Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  3. Smoked Paprika Powder – 1 tsp
  4. Water – ½ Cup
  5. Salt & Pepper – to taste

METHOD:

  1. Add Tomato Puree, Chilli and Paprika powder into Mixing Bowl, use Mixing Spoon to combine thoroughly
  2. Gradually add your Water whilst mixing until the sauce is a smoothie consistency
  3. Use Salt and Pepper to season
  4. Mix one last time before applying the sauce to your chosen pizza base

Molly's 'Chuck It In' Pizza Sauce

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Tomatoes [Chopped] – 1 Tin
  2. Tomato Puree – 1 tbsp
  3. Red Pepper – ½
  4. Mixed Herbs – 1 tsp
  5. Sugar – 1 tsp
  6. Garlic Powder – 2 tsp
  7. Salt & Pepper – to taste

METHOD:

  1. Add all ingredients to the Blender and blend until smooth
  2. Apply the sauce to your chosen pizza base

Week 3 - 'Cupcake Week'

We have made it to Week 3! This week is Cupcake Week and the theme is WHAT’S INSIDE! We want you to cook up some Cupcake creations filled or decorated with something surprising! Bake with Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to bake? Why not decorate something you already have in your cupboard!

Layla’s ‘Autumn Muffins

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising] – 6 oz
  2. Sugar [Caster] – 6 oz and 2 tbsp
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 6 oz
  4. Eggs – 3
  5. Cinnamon [Ground] – 5 tbsp
  6. Baking Powder – 1 tbsp
  7. Vanilla Extract – 1 tbsp

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Wash Apples and use your Knife and Chopping Board to dice your apples into small cubes
  3. Put the cut Apples in a small bowl and mix through 2 tbsp of Cinnamon and 2 tbsp of sugar, cover the bowl and put to the side to marinade
  4. Sieve 6 oz of Sugar, Flour, 3 tbsp of Cinnamon and Baking Powder into Mixing Bowl, if you don’t have a Sieve use a Whisk to break up the lumps
  5. Add Butter, Vanilla and Eggs to the mixture and Blend mix until smooth
  6. Use ¾ of your Apples to mix through the cake batter and leave the rest to decorate
  7. Spoon the mixture into the Paper Cases in the Muffin Tin and cook in the Oven for approx. 30mins
  8. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  9. Leave your bake to cool before decorating

Molly’s ‘Blueberry-Choc Surprise Cakes’

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising] – 120g
  2. Sugar [Caster] – 120g
  3. Butter [Room Temperature] – 120g
  4. Eggs – 1
  5. Blueberry White Hot Chocolate [Powder] – 3 tsp
  6. Baking Powder – 1 tbsp

METHOD:

  1. Preheat the Oven to 1800c
  2. Sieve all dry ingredients into Mixing Bowl, if you don’t have a Sieve use a Whisk to break up the lumps
  3. Add Butter and Eggs to the mixture and use Mixing Spoon to combine until smooth
  4. Add a dash of milk if the mixture is too thick
  5. Spoon the mixture into the Paper Cases in the Muffin Tin and cook in the Oven for approx. 15-20mins or until golden brown on top
  6. When ready, remove your bake from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  7. Leave your bake to cool before decorating

Week 4 - 'No Bake Week'

Did someone say Week 4?!?!! This week is a challenge with a difference because it is NO BAKE WEEK! We are really testing you bunch of super-star Bakers because this week there are NO OVENS ALLOWED! That’s right, we want you to make an edible concoction that doesn’t need to be baked in an oven! Try Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to make something from scratch? Why not decorate something you already have in your cupboard!

Recipes

Layla’s ‘Peanut-crunch Flapjacks

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Oats – 155g
  2. Brown Sugar – 40g
  3. Golden Syrup – 3 tbsp
  4. Peanut Butter – 2 ½ tbsp
  5. Vanilla Extract – 1 tbsp

METHOD:

  1. Put Syrup, Sugar, Peanut Butter and Vanilla into your Cooking Pot
  2. Weigh out Oats in a separate Bowl
  3. Heat your wet ingredients on the stove until they combine to form a smooth golden paste, mix it continuously while on the heat
  4. Once combined, turn of the heat and mix in the Oats you weighed out earlier
  5. Spoon the mixture into a lined baking tray and use the back of your spoon to press it flat together
  6. Cool in the fridge and then cut it carefully into rectangles before serving
  7. This can be served plain or with decorations of your choice

Molly’s ‘Original Lemony Cheesecake’

YOU WILL NEED:

BASE INGREDIENTS:

  1. Digestive Biscuits – 1 packet
  2. Butter [Melted] – as needed

METHOD:

  1. Blend the biscuits until they are fine crumbs or break them up break them yourself
  2. Add in the melted butter bit by bit until it looks like wet sand
  3. Spoon into your dish and pack down the base using the back of a spoon to even it out
  4. Leave in the fridge to rest while making the cheesecake mixture

FILLING INGREDIENTS:

  1. Soft Cheese – 200g
  2. Double Cream – 300ml
  3. Sugar – 100g
  4. Lemons – 2

METHOD:

  1. Add the soft cheese, cream, sugar, lemon juice and approx. 3/4 of the lemon zest to a bowl
  2. Using an electric whisk, whisked the mixture until it is a thick consistency (but don’t over whip)
  3. Spread the cheesecake filling onto the base and decorate using the remaining lemon zest
  4. Leave in the fridge to set for a few hours

Week 5 - 'Breakfast Week'

We are Thriving for Week 5!!!! This week is ‘Breakfast Week’! This week we want you to START YOUR DAY THE RIGHT WAY! That’s right, we want you to live your best Breakfast life and make us the Breakfast of your dreams! Pancakes, Waffles, a Breakfast Burrito – it really is up to you! Try Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to make something from scratch? Why not decorate something you already have in your cupboard!

Recipes

Layla’s ‘Plain Scones

YOU WILL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising/Bread Flour] – 450g
  2. Sugar – 80g
  3. Butter [Soft] – 80g
  4. Eggs – 3
  5. Baking Powder – 5 tsp
  6. Milk – 250ml

METHOD:

  1. Pre-heat the Oven to 2000c
  2. Sift flour into a Mixing Bowl and add butter, then use Clean Hands to rub the mixture together into a breadcrumb texture
  3. Add in the Sugar, 2 Eggs and Baking Powder and mix gently
  4. Mix in the milk bit by bit until a soft/wet dough is formed, you probably wont need to use all the milk
  5. Sprinkle flour onto a clean work surface and tip the soft dough out onto the work surface, sprinkle more flour on top of the dough to reduce the stickiness
  6. Roll out the dough out thick and cut into circle shapes, then place them on a lined baking tray and glaze with a beaten Egg
  7. Cook in Oven for up to 30mins or until golden
  8. When ready, remove from Oven with Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel
  9. Let the Scones cool and then decorate with ingredients of your choice

Molly’s ‘Cinnamon Roles’

YOU WILL NEED:

DOUGH INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising] – 300g
  2. Sugar – 2 tbsp
  3. Cinnamon [Ground] – 1 tsp
  4. Butter [Melted] – 70g
  5. Eggs [Yolks] – 2
  6. Milk – 130ml

METHOD:

  1. Pre-heat the Oven to 1800c
  2. Mix the flour, caster sugar and cinnamon together with a pinch of salt in a Mixing Bowl
  3. Mix the butter, egg yolks and milk together and combine with the dry ingredients to make a soft dough
  4. Turn out onto a floured surface and roll out to a rectangle

FILLING INGREDIENTS:

  1. Cinnamon [Ground] – 1 tsp
  2. Brown Sugar [Soft] – 55g
  3. Sugar – 2 tbsp
  4. Butter [Melted] – 40g

METHOD:

  1. Mix the all the filling ingredients together and spread evenly over the dough
  2. Roll it up lengthways to form a log shape and use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 8 even-sized slices
  3. Place slices onto your Baking Tray, brush gently with some milk, and bake for 30-35 mins or until golden brown
  4. When ready, remove from the Oven using Oven Gloves or a Tea Towel

ICING INGREDIENTS:

  1. Soft Cheese – 1 tbsp
  2. Icing Sugar – 60g
  3. Butter [Softened] – ½ tbsp
  4. Vanilla Essence – ½ tsp

METHOD:

  1. Sift the icing sugar into a large bowl and make a well in the centre
  2. Place the cream cheese and butter in the centre, pour over 2 tbsp boiling water, and stir to mix, add extra water until drizzly in consistency
  3. Stir in the vanilla essence, then drizzle the icing over the rolls

Week 6 - 'Chocolate Week'

In The Mix For Week 6!!!! This week is ‘Chocolate Week’! This week the theme is PURE IMAGINATION so we want to see your Willy Wonka Worthy Bakes! Cake, Biscuits, Mousse – it really is up to you, but Chocolate must feature somewhere in your Bake! Try Layla and Molly’s recipes, or use one of your own. Don’t want to make something from scratch? Why not decorate something you already have in your cupboard!

Molly’s ‘Marble Loaf’

YOU WILL NEED:

DOUGH INGREDIENTS:

  1. Flour [Self Raising] – 225g
  2. Sugar – 225g
  3. Butter – 225g
  4. Eggs – 4
  5. Milk – 3 tbsp
  6. Cocoa [Powder] – 3 tbsp
  7. Vanilla [Essence] – 1 tsp

METHOD:

  1. Pre-heat the Oven to 1800c and grease your Cake Pan
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth
  3. Add the 4 eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition
  4. Fold in the flour, milk and vanilla until smooth
  5. Divide the mixture into two bowls and add the cocoa powder to one
  6. Dollop the cake mixtures alternately into the Cake Pan
  7. Use a fork or a skewer to swirl the mixture to get the marble effect
  8. Bake the cake for 45-55minutes until a knife inserted into the centre comes out clean
  9. Leave to cool and decorate with ingredients of your choice
