Summer 2020 – A Review

Summer 2020 might have been one of the weirdest we’re likely to ever experience, but that couldn’t stop us putting together an action-packed programme of online activities to keep everyone busy during the school summer holidays! We posted activities across our social media every day from Monday to Saturday throughout the summer, absolutely all of which were free to take part in! Check out what we got up to below!

'Dens Days' (Mondays)'

Every Monday we broadcasted our “Dens Days” videos on our Social Media channels, in which our team of intrepid Virtual Volunteers imparted helpful hints about den-building both indoors and outdoors. As well as demonstrating fun activities and setting challenges for you to try at home we even had a limited supply of FREE Dens Packs to hand out!

'Emma's Arty Art Show' (Tuesdays)'

Every Tuesday at 4pm one of our talented youngsters, Emma McDade, presented her own Arty Art Show, making crafts using simple items you usually have at home.

'Gone Viral' (Wednesdays)'

Our Jumping off the Stage project had “Gone Viral” with our team working on making a short fantasy film, scripted on ideas generated by children on Bute during the lockdown. This project is still ongoing and we can’t wait to share with you what our clever young people have got up to! In the meantime, why not enjoy a spot of ‘News’ from the summer?

'The Sound of Summer' (Thursdays)'

During the summer we ran an ambitions, a one-of-a-kind, brand new singing project, The Sound of Summer! Our talented young people (and a few seasoned veterans!) sang their way through Broadway Hits from Wicked and Mamma Mia to Disney, all from the comfort of their own home! Working alongside the Directors of Strathclyde University’s Musical Theatre Society as well as some very talented local musicians, we feel we created something pretty special! Check it out below!

'Bute Heritage Hunt' (Saturdays)'

On Saturdays Local Archaeologist Paul Duffy and his Research Assistant Zander Paterson answered your questions about archaeology, heritage and the past on Bute. This fun family project encouraged everyone to get out and about and discover things you never knew about the island’s history. There were challenges, and even prizes!
